The Shitbox Rally is not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable… To drive cars worth less than $1,000 across Australia via some of its most formidable roads, all in the name of charity.
Many of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it be parents, close family friends, people we know or ourselves that have battled or are battling cancer, this awful disease has touched us all.
Each team that takes part must raise a minimum of $5,000 to participate in the rally. We are currently seeking corporate sponsors and individual donations to help reach our target.
The rally this year for us will be almost 7,000 kilometres in total – travelling from Sydney to Melbourne, Melbourne to Birdsville, Birdsville to Townsville, and back to Sydney again – utilising mainly outback dirt roads.
The good news is we’ll be doing this in a highly-unsuitable vehicle (which could be considered as part of the fun). Our weapon of choice is an almost 20-year-old Renault Scenic (kindly donated by Luke from Switch Media, thanks to Luke!). The fact that the car was bound for the wreckers and was never really meant for offroad/ outback driving won’t stop us, and it has also given us a great team name – ‘Scenic the Hedgehog’.
